The Divine Word College of San Jose made its mark at the 20th National Youth Congress hosted at the University of the Philippines Diliman from November 18th to 20th, 2023.
In a gathering of 25 schools and 188 delegates, the Divine Word College of San Jose delegation, including Ruzkiel Bustillos, Kiara Perez, Alexene Comilang, Hannah Gega, Mark Mangguera, Dominic Baes, and Princess Paloma, engaged in a series of enriching activities.
Commencing at the UP Law Hall, the event kicked off with inspiring speeches infused with economic and political insights by prominent figures such as Atty. Chel Diokno, Atty. Neri Colminares, Deirdre Conde, and Atty. Terry Riddon.
The following day, delegates immersed themselves in Launch Workshops led by intellectual speakers covering diverse themes including technology, urban planning practices, sustainability, policy making, and cultural sensitivity. The day concluded with the vibrant Socials Night.
Standout performances by Divine Word College delegates were recognized, with Kiara Perez, Hannah Gega, and Alexene Comilang clinching 7th place in the Economic Quiz Bee. Additionally, the team secured 13th place in Glimpse Video Making, while Ruzkiel James Bustillos secured 7th place in Ink Essay Writing. Dominic Baes and Princess Aleya Paloma also earned accolades for their performances in Extemporaneous Speech and Capture Visual Arts, respectively.
Concluding the event, delegates embarked on a field trip to the Senate of the Philippines during a budget hearing. Ruzkiel Bustillos had the opportunity to interview Senator Risa Hontiveros, delving into her insights on navigating skepticism towards the justice system in the Philippines.
The Divine Word College of San Jose's active participation and commendable achievements underscored its commitment to intellectual engagement and excellence at the national level.
