The Gender and Development filmmaking team of the Divine Word College of San Jose College Department won third best short film and best director during the 2023 National Women's Month Celebration by the Commission on Higher Education-MIMAROPA with the theme of "We for gender equality and inclusive society", March 31.
With the sub-theme of "KakaiBABAE: Tagumpay ni Juana, Tagumpay ng Lahat!", The Pioneer (2022-2023) produced a short film titled Banyuhay that featured the transformation of Samantha dela Cruz, an accountancy student. The young Sam was portrayed by Marlon Agustin, an education student. Banyuhay is a tagalog term for metamorphosis, one of the butterfly's life stages.
As stated in the mechanics, "the short film contest was inclusive of gender and different faces of women that overrides differences in SOGIE, class, ability, generation, status, and culture." Josen Feliz Gordovez, editor-in-chief of the publication, directed the short film. Other students who worked behind the camera were: Jan Ira Tugade, videographer and editor; Ashley Kate Dizon, scriptwriter and; Marlu Marigmen, music director. The team was supervised by Mrs. Ma. Elena Valera, Ms. Marleen Ann Gaudier, Ms. Ana Mae Tividad, and Ms. Fiel Alvaro.
